The Divine nine
The Divine Nine are the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). They were founded in the early 20th century by Black college students as a way to create safe spaces for themselves and to promote academic excellence, leadership, and service to the community.
